New Cars/Automobiles
If you must buy new, hold onto that car for at least 10 years or 100,000 miles or even better, until it dies! We have 3 cars, a 14-year-old with 160,000 miles, a 13-year-old with 168,000 miles and a 3-year-old with 12,000 miles. When we bought our last new car all we could get from the dealer or through a private sale was about $500-$750 for the now 14 year old car, that was 3 years and 15,000 miles ago (we have only replaced the tires and changed the oil since!). We have gotten our $750 worth over the last 3 years and saved wear and tear on our new car. Keep your old car as long as you can. Compare the cost of repairing your old car to continuing monthly car payments on a new car, repairing is almost always cheaper!
Don't buy a car from a dealer on your first visit, if you are serious take the deal as far as you can go (without signing) and leave and we mean leave because they won't meet your lowball price (research the invoice price before going in). Make that first visit within the last 4-8 days of the month. Go to a few dealers and do this. Within a few days (probably by the last day of the month), some dealers will call you back. If they won't meet your price on the phone and you go in, hold firm (remember you can always try the same tactic again next month when they may be a little more desperate to make a sale to meet the dealerships monthly goal).

You are financially better off buying a 1-2 year old car. When you first drive a new vehicle off the lot, it immediately losses about $1500 of it's value! A 1-2 year old car has got a lot of life and mileage left and probably won't need any repairs for a few more years.

Road Service
Paying for this on car(s) that are less than 3 years old is not worth it. Many Auto Insurance companies offer towing for less than $5/year and this is probably only needed after your car is getting older and more unreliable. Keep a spare car key in your wallet or purse, if you get locked out you won't have to call, wait and pay for a locksmith. (Insurance duplicate)
Service
Tires - Don't spend your money on road hazard insurance. Over your life how many tire problems have you actually had and how many new sets of tires have you bought. If you always bought road hazard insurance for every new tire you could have bought new tires when and if needed and still be ahead financially.
